Flora
The most structured natural vegetation is a tropical forest of the jungle type with evergreen and deciduous trees the latter defoliating in the dry season. Historically, this island exports sandalwood.
Rainforest covers all low-lying, uncultivated regions; along the coasts, mangroves are frequent. Where rainfall is less the forest is interrupted by savannahs.
Trekking is the best way to admire the landscapes and be at the center of the lush nature of the island of Sumba. The route is accessible, even for the less sporty as the relief is undulating but not particularly bumpy.
We recommend starting from the Marosi region, here you can discover sumptuous landscapes and you can walk along small paths inside the rice fields, guaranteed disorientation. This excursion will be the ideal opportunity to discover the Kampung adat, these small traditional villages scattered along the paths.
